Le prix de la meilleure nouvelle artiste a été décerné à Ice Spice. Karol G s’est produit avec une troupe de danseurs masculins vêtus de rose et coiffés d’une perruque, une performance visuellement stupéfiante, et a mené la charge pour la musique latine en remportant le prix de la meilleure collaboration avec Shakira ; Anitta a remporté le prix de la meilleure musique latine.
Une personne dans les coulisses qui a vu la rencontre a déclaré qu’elle était en fait très affectueuse, mais les caméras de MTV dans les coulisses ont filmé ce qui semblait être une dispute entre Justin Timberlake et Megan Thee Stallion.
Maneskin a fait du rock, Fall Out Boy a joué ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’ au milieu de tonnes de feu, et la célébration du 50e anniversaire du hip-hop a conclu la soirée alors que le spectacle entrait dans sa quatrième heure.
